The Next Suit!

So after a great workshop with the Wire Working Magician Ellen Wieske, I have felt draw once more to work with steel wire! Bouncing off some rough sketches, I'm in pursuit of my next performance suit utilizing 12 gauge steel wire along with stretchable nylon fabric. I'm at the moment remaining very playful with the material and simply just having some fun as its about time I do so.

This last semester out at COA, I have been working very tight and very focused on small scale detailed work, hinges especially (Thanks Tim, Bob and Ellen for the tips). It is a breath of fresh air to return to more large scale sculptural work and I'm excited to see where it will lead!

Recently, I was accepted into the 2013 SupBrooch Exhibition juried by Cortland Dewitt and Sharon Massey. Thank you both for providing this opportunity.... Actually, its about darn time an exhibit like this is up because you I'm all about a good man brooch! SO Total props!

And finally, I have also been accepted to the 2014 Hand Crafted Exhibition at Imperial Art Center in Rocky Mount, NC. The piece would be my previous suit which i have titled the Embossment Suit.

Pocosin Residency!

I find it hard to believe, but it's simply true! Its almost been 3 months now since my arrival in Columbia, NC! It has been an exciting and adventurous journey so far, especially getting acquainted with the local area and people. Pocosin Arts has had no shortage of things for me to do, everything from pulling weeds to database entry, event photography, building repairs, etc! No matter what the task, they can count on me!

It is also amazing watching how my own personal perspective as well as the physical work itself is changing and evolving around the local environments. These exciting changes are also the result of working along side Marlene True who's superb craft and inventive ideas translate into a powerful source of motivation.

Arrowmont 2012

This Summer, I was the lucky recipient of a scholarship to attend a 2 week work shop at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Galtlinburg, TN. My experience there was to say the least life changing. The people that I met, the skills that I learned, and passion that I saw all around me has given me something that I find hard to put into words. The studio environment was one of a kind filled with laughter, cheer, and focused creative energy like nothing i have ever ever experienced. My peers and I shared something so special in such a short amount of time  I had the pleasure to work with Jewelers Bob Ebendorf and Marissa Saneholtz . Bob is a man of great passion for life, his students, and creating art as a means of expressing these passions. His lessons have served me above and beyond my expectations and he will be forever a powerful influence in the my life as an artist. Thank you Bob for all the you have done! Marissa's skills, techniques, and spunky personality were as well endearing to everyone and I give her major props for share with the class her cleaver solutions for Pinbacks!
